DeAndrea Carter began at ULM as a mental health counselor in March 2023, transitioning to athletics in August 2023. She arrived from Serenity Springs Specialty Hospital, where she spent three years as a mental health counselor.
Carter is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in both Texas and Louisiana with a strong academic foundation and a passion for supporting mental wellness. Her clinical experience spans a range of areas, including trauma, depression, anxiety, identity development, substance abuse and other mental health challenges. Her work is grounded in evidence-based practices and a holistic understanding of mind-body performance.
A former collegiate athlete, Carter earned scholarships in volleyball and track, and later walked on to compete in basketball experiences that continue to shape her dedication to working with student-athletes and high performers. Her approach integrates clinical expertise with a deep understanding of the mental demands of competitive environments.
She holds a bachelor's degree in psychology, a master's degree in clinical mental health counseling, and a certificate in sport psychology. Currently, she is pursuing a doctorate in sports and performance psychology, with an anticipated completion in 2026.
