Dr. Miguel Lopez is a fellowship-trained sports medicine physician currently serving as the Director of Sports Medicine at Ochsner LSU Health – Monroe Medical Center. With a focus on clinical excellence and education, he oversees medical care for multiple NCAA Division I programs, professional hockey teams, and regional high schools. In addition to his leadership role, Dr. Lopez is an Assistant Professor and core faculty member for the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship and Family Medicine Residency programs, where he directs musculoskeletal education.

He was born and raised in South Bend, Indiana and attended Indiana University - Bloomington, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Biology. Afterwards, he completed his medical degree at University of Louisville and his Family Medicine residency at Penn State Family & Community Medicine. He completed his Sports Medicine fellowship at Henry Ford Health in Detroit, Michigan; there he helped in the care of the Detroit Lions, Detroit Pistons, Motor City Cruise (NBA G League), Oakland University, several local high schools and the Winter FISU World University Games.

Dr. Lopez is a recognized leader in his field, having been named the 2025 Louisiana Athletic Training Association Sports Medicine Person of the Year. His research interests include the validation of wearable technology to prevent heat-related injuries in collegiate athletes and improving systemic asthma care pathways. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on primary care procedures and sports-related injuries.
