Offense Stalls for ULM Soccer in 0-0 Tie at Florida International

MIAMI, Fla. ? Sophomore goalkeeper Mallory George posted her fourth shut out of the season, but the ULM women's soccer team couldn't find the back of the net in a 0-0 tie against Florida International at University Park in Miami, Fla. on Friday night.

“I was proud of the way our girls were able to keep their composure and stick together tonight,” ULM head coach Stacy Lamb said. “This was by far the most hostile and vocal crowd we have faced in a Sun Belt Conference match. I thought we were able to overcome it. Unfortunately we couldn't find the back of the net.”

The shutout for George was the seventh of her young career, moving the Centennial, Colo. native into sole possession of second place on the ULM career list. George picked up five saves in the match to push her season total to 76.

In her last four matches, George has a goals-against average of 0.71 and has stopped 87 percent of the shots she has faced.

In Friday's match, the Warhawks placed more shots on frame against the Golden Panthers (6-5), but were unable to push one past FIU goalkeeper Madeline Gannon. Senior Allison Matson and sophomore Raydan Phillips each picked up two shots on goal in the match.

ULM out shot FIU by a 3-2 mark in the two overtime periods, but was unable to get the game-winning score.

“Today was just a frustrating game for us,” ULM head coach Stacy Lamb said. “I felt like we were the better team for the whole 110 minutes, but just couldn't find the back of the net. It wasn't that we played poorly. We were creating chances. We just couldn't finish.”

The Warhawks will be looking to get back in the win column on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Boca Raton, Fla. to take on the Owls of Florida Atlantic. FAU (5-6-1, 2-3 Sun Belt) dropped a 2-1 overtime decision against Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday night.
