ULM Soccer Scores Road Upset of Florida Atlantic, 1-0

Soccer

BOCA RATON, Fla. ? The ULM women's soccer team made the most of their three shots on Sunday afternoon, scoring the only goal to secure a 1-0 upset victory against Florida Atlantic at FAU Field in Boca Raton, Fla.

“Today's game was just a great team effort by all of our girls,” ULM soccer head coach Stacy Lamb said. “Everyone came together and would not give up. We worked as a team, executed when we needed to, and played our best game of the season. I am really proud of the way we came together and got the win.”

ULM (6-8-1, 2-3-1 Sun Belt) was out shot in the first half, 13-1, but found the back of the net off their only shot of the period in the 25th minute when freshman Tiffany Bombard's header beat Owl goalkeeper Jessica Badders. The score by Bombard, her third of the season, was assisted by junior captain Rachel Hobson.

The Warhawk defense limited the Owls to only five shots in the second half, but finished the game being out shot by an 18-3 margin.

“I know that we were out shot today, but I felt we were the better team,” Lamb said. “We came out ready to play and I thought we really were the aggressors today. We were more physical and were hungrier for the win.”

ULM finished the game with more than twice as many fouls than Florida Atlantic, 18-7.

Sophomore goalkeeper Mallory George continued her hot streak, recording eight saves for her second shut out of the weekend.

The Warhawks will look to extend their unbeaten streak next weekend when they return to the ULM Soccer Complex to face league-leading Western Kentucky at 3 p.m.

ULM Notes

- With its sixth win of the season the ULM soccer team has surpassed its victory total from last year (5-13-2).

- Sophomore Mallory George has posted a goals against average of 0.57 over ULM's last five matches. Over that span, George has hauled in 28 saves while allowing only three goals for a .903 save percentage.

- In the first half of ULM's game against Florida Atlantic, George hit a career milestone. The Centennial, Colo. native passed the 3,000 minute mark for her career in goal. Her zero goals allowed over the last 224:01 minutes is good for the fifth longest streak in ULM history. She is just under five minutes shy of the fourth best scoreless-minutes streak (229:32) accomplished by Jennifer Doran in the first season of the program (1999).

- Junior Rachel Hobson's team-leading third assist of the season was the eighth of her career, moving the Longmont, Colo. native into a tie with Rosie Campbell for fourth place on the all-time list. Hobson is tied with Erin Sherry and teammate Sara Islas for seventh place on the career points list (24).
