MONROE, La.—Louisiana-Lafayette
held off a rally by ULM to defeat the Warhawks
3-2 (30-17, 30-25, 28-30, 17-30, 15-12) Sunday evening in the ULM Activity
Center.
The Warhawks (0-26, 0-13 Sun Belt) rallied from down 2-0 to
force the fifth and deciding game. Ilima
posted her third triple-double in the last two weeks with 12 kills, 29 assists
and 19 digs to lead ULM,
while Johanna Spreen had 14 kills.
Stephanie Hall posted a double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs and
Candice Howell had 10 kills.
Louisiana-Lafayette (4-25, 3-11) was led by 12 kills from
Caroline Dufrene and 10 by Monica Deschaine.
ULM
outhit the Ragin' Cajuns for the match .168-.109. The Warhawks also had more kills than ULL
(60-54), but Louisiana-Lafayette landed 18 service aces, compared to just seven
for ULM.
The Warhawks' Christy Tribble and ULL's Erika Castro each
finished the match with 25 digs.
ULL jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the fifth game, but the
Warhawks battled back tying the game with back-to-back points. The Ragin' Cajuns would go on to open a 10-7
lead, but ULM
got a pair of kills by Spreen and a ULL attack error to tie the game at 10-10.
Louisiana-Lafayette scored five of the next seven points
taking the match.
The Warhawks trailed 23-21 in game three, but went on an 8-2
run opening a 29-25 advantage. ULM fought off a rally by
ULL to take its first game of the match.
The Warhawks controlled game four from the onset forcing the fifth game.
ULM steps out of conference
to host Texas Southern on Thursday, Nov. 1, at
7:00 pm in the ULM
Activity Center. Admission is free to all ULM volleyball matches.
