ULM Soccer Falls in Parents? Weekend Finale, 1-0

MONROE, La. ? The ULM women's soccer team struggled to find the offense, falling 1-0 in a defensive slugfest against UALR on Sunday afternoon in the final team activity of Parents' Weekend at the ULM Soccer Complex.

“We played poorly today,” ULM soccer head coach Stacy Lamb said. “We didn't execute our game plan at all. We didn't win any of the 50-50 balls and played behind all game long. This league is too difficult to play 75 percent of a game on defense and expect to have a chance to win.”

ULM (5-8, 1-3 Sun Belt) was out-shot on the afternoon by a 19-7 margin, including a 9-2 difference in shots on frame.

Despite being out shot 11-3 at the half, the Warhawks and Trojans entered intermission tied at 0-0. Senior Allison Matson had a pair of good looks at the goal, but sent both shots just high of the far corner.

In the second half, the two teams played through 20 more scoreless minutes before the Trojans' Jessica Beaver found the back of the net on a pass from Alisa Spitali. UALR (8-5, 3-1 Sun Belt) made the score hold up, claiming the 1-0 victory.

Mallory George made a bunch of good stops for us in goal today,” Lamb said. “We were just on defense too much. I know that we have a young team, but we have to learn to put a whole weekend together. We have to follow up a great Friday game with a better Sunday game.”

The Warhawks return to action next weekend when they travel to Florida to take on a pair of conference rivals beginning with Florida International on Oct. 12 in Miami at 6 p.m.
