Gilroy blasted 14 kills leading Troy to a 3-0
(30-13, 30-18, 31-29) victory over visiting ULM Sunday afternoon in Trojan Arena. Johanna Spreen led the Warhawks with eight
kills, while Illima Sam Fong had six kills, seven digs and 16 assists.
The Trojans (13-11, 4-4 Sun Belt) jumped out to a 10-1 lead and
stretched it to 19-15 in the opening game.
Troy held
at least a 12-point lead over the remainder of the game.
Game two saw the two teams battle early, with Troy holding a slight
10-9 edge. The Trojans then went on a 10-2
run extending its lead to 20-12 and took the game 30-18.
The Warhawks (0-19, 0-6) used a 5-1 run in game three tying
the frame at 12-12 following a pair of kills by Spreen and a Troy
attack error. The Trojans followed ULM's run with a 5-0 run
of their own claiming a 17-12 lead.
The Troy lead swelled to
27-21 late in the game, but the Warhawks fought back and tied the game at 29-29
on a kill by Candice Howell; she finished with three on the match. The Trojans scored the final two points of
the game to take the match.
ULM
concludes a five-match road swing at Louisiana-Lafayette (2-20, 1-6) on Monday
night at 7:00 pm.
