MONROE, La.?ULM sophomore James
Truxillo has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI First
Team by the College Sports Information Directors of
America (CoSIDA).
A starter in the Warhawk secondary from Jefferson, La.,
Truxillo maintains a 3.48 grade-point average in criminal justice.
Before an injury sidelined him for ULM's
last two games, Truxillo led the Warhawk defense with 51 tackles. He also has an interception, five pass
breakups and 1.5 tackles for a loss to his credit this season.
Truxillo moved from the bandit role to the rover position
prior to the Warhawks game at Troy and the
impact on the ULM
defense was tremendous. The Warhawks
went from allowing 524.3 yards per game in the three games prior to his position change, to allowing
365.3 yards in the four games following the change. In
the two games he has missed due to his injury, the Warhawks have allowed 472.0
yards.
Truxillo is now eligible for Academic
All-American Honors, which will be announced on Nov. 29 following a national
vote by CoSIDA.
CoSIDA's 1800 members in the United States and Canada nominate players for ESPN
The Magazine / Academic All-America? recognition. To be eligible, a
student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and be
a starter or key reserve on his or her team.
District VI encompasses individuals playing for universities
in Mississippi,
Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico.
The Warhawks conclude the 2007 home schedule Saturday
afternoon against Grambling
State at 4:00 pm in
Malone Stadium. It will be the final
home game for 16 ULM
seniors.
