MONROE, La. --- ULM Hall of Famer Stan Humphries will join the ULM Sports Network broadcast team in 2007. Humphries, the quarterback of ULM's 1987 I-AA National Championship football team, will handle the color commentary for ULM football.

"This will be a lot of fun," said Humphries. "I'm glad that I am able to get involved at the University, especially during this 20th anniversary season of the national championship."

Humphries, a 2007 inductee into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in June, quarterbacked ULM to the 1987 NCAA Division I-AA national championship and guided the San Diego Chargers to their only Super Bowl appearance to highlight a 10-year pro career. Enshrined in the Chargers Hall of Fame in 2002, Humphries was noted for his toughness as he threw for over 17,000 yards and 89 touchdowns as a pro to complete a career which began with prep All-America recognition at Southwood High School in Shreveport.

"We are excited to have Stan become a key part of our football broadcast team this season," said ULM director of athletics Bobby Staub. "He will bring great insight to the game and the history of ULM football as we celebrate our 20th anniversary of the 1987 championship season."

When Humphries retired from the NFL after the 1997 season, he and his wife, Connie, moved his family back to Louisiana. He joined the ULM coaching staff, serving as first quarterbacks coach for two seasons and then offensive coordinator for one.

As a player at ULM, Humphries passed for 4,395 yards and 29 touchdowns over two seasons. He still holds the record for 300-yard passing games with eight. He is a member of the ULM Sports Hall of Fame and is one of two ULM football players to have their jersey retired.

Humphries is currently keeping active as a volunteer basketball coach for Ouachita Christian School girls' team. His daughters, Brooke and Chelsea, play for the squad which won more than 30 games last season.

Humphries has spent time behind the microphone with the Chargers and for the 2005 ULM vs. Northwestern State broadcast on Cox Sports Television.

Humphries returns to San Diego each year, where he hosts a celebrity golf tournament. The event has raised more than $1 million over the years for the Children's Hospital and Health Center in San Diego. He also is a member of the San Diego Hall of Champions.

Humphries will replace 2000 ULM Sports Hall of Famer Lou St. Amant in the booth. St. Amant stepped down from his role as color analyst at the end of the 2006 season. St. Amant spent 22 seasons in the radio booth for ULM.

"We appreciate Lou's many years of service in the booth," said Staub. "His passion for ULM and his love of the game brought excitement to each football broadcast. We look forward to his continued association with the program in the years to come."

The ULM Warhawks begin the 2007 season on Thursday, Aug. 30, against Tulsa at Malone Stadium on ESPN2. Radio broadcasts can be heard on KJLO 104.1 FM in Monroe, the flagship station of the Warhawks Radio Network.
