MONROE, La. ? With the NCAA hoops regular season still two months away, the ULM men's basketball team has been hard at work preparing for an exhibition tour in Costa Rica beginning on Saturday, Sept. 1.
“I think this is a great deal and that the guys will have fun with the games over there and with the trip,” ULM men's basketball head coach Orlando Early said. “We are going to make it more than just a basketball trip. We are going to get to tour the rainforest and learn more about Costa Rica.”
The preseason exhibition exemption has allowed ULM men's basketball head coach Orlando Early to get his team together for practice a little early this season. The Warhawks were allowed to practice ten days in preparation of the three-game exhibition tour.
After departing from Monroe on Friday afternoon, the Warhawks will play their first game against Saprissa at 11 a.m. on Saturday. ULM will also face the University of Coasta Rica on Saturday before playing Goicochea on Sunday.
“The first team we play won their pro league championships so they should be pretty good,” Early said. “This will be a good test for us and we will be able to see a lot of our guys compete in a game setting. We are looking forward to it.”
It won't all be about basketball for the Warhawks while they are in Latin America. The ULM coaches and players will be taken on a rainforest tour and get the opportunity to see the sights in San Jose and San Pedro. The Warhawks will be in a mountainous region with the possibility of seeing an active volcano.
The Warhawks will be back in Monroe on Monday night so that they will be able to attend classes bright and early Tuesday morning.
