ULM Volleyball Drops Three Matches Friday at Texas Southern Opener

Volleyball

HOUSTON, Texas?Despite recording more kills than its opponents in all three matches of the day, ULM dropped all three on day one of the Texas Southern Opener Volleyball Tournament Friday night.

The Warhawks (0-7) dropped their first match of the day 3-1 (30-16, 31-33, 30-28, 30-18) to UTEP (5-1). Mississippi Valley State (2-1) swept ULM 3-0 (30-25, 30-28, 30-20) in match two and the host Tigers ended the day downing the Warhawks 3-1 (30-22, 30-22, 27-30, 30-24).

Stephanie Hall led the ULM offense in all three matches with kill totals of 13, 8 and 13. Jessica Ayodele and Candice Howell also recorded double-digit kills on the day with Ayodele picking up 10 against UTEP and Howell had 12 against Texas Southern.

The Achilles' heel for the Warhawks was once again the serving game as they committed 27.7 service errors per match today; ULM is averaging 21.9 service errors per match this season.

ULM hit a season-high .197 against the Miners with 51 kills and just 20 errors; the Warhawks also posted their second-highest block total with four. In the match against Mississippi Valley State, ULM committed just 20 attack errors, its second-lowest total of the year (19 in the season opener against St. Louis.)

The Warhawks have now recorded more kills than their opponents in four-straight matches by an average of 11.0 per match.

Thanks in part to three service aces by Christy Tribble, ULM reached double-figure aces as a team for the second time this year; they had 19 against Nicholls State on Tuesday.

After the three matches today, ULM has just one scheduled for tomorrow. The Warhawks square off against Prairie View A&M at 1:00 pm.
