No. 18 Texas A&M Pushes Past ULM 54-14; Dawson Extends 100-Yard Streak to Eight Games

COLLEGE STATION, Texas? No. 18 Texas A&M used a consistent offensive attack and forced key turnovers in a 54-14 victory over visiting ULM Saturday evening in front of 77,309 fans at Kyle Field.

ULM (0-3) running back Calvin Dawson extended his consecutive game streak with at least 100 yards rushing to eight with 126 yards on the ground. He moved into third place on the both the career rushing list with 2,361 yards and the career rushing touchdown list with 22. Dawson also caught five passes for a career-high 42 yards; he finished with 168 all-purpose yards.

Texas A&M (3-0) quarterback Stephen McGee finished the game 19-of-33 for 237 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Mike Goodson led the ground attack rushing for 113 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown. Jorvorskie Lane ran for just 34 yards, but had two touchdowns.

Lane capped an 11-play drive on the Aggies opening possession of the game with a five-yard touchdown. Lane rushed for 17 yards on the opening drive including six yards on a fourth-and-one; the fourth-down conversion was the first by a ULM opponent this season.

Dawson tied the game at 7-7 with a one-yard touchdown plunge at the 4:31 mark in the first quarter. ULM used a 14-play drive taking just over five minutes off the clock to answer the opening score by Texas A&M.

Matt Szymanski put Texas A&M back on top 10-7 with a career-long 45-yard field in the waning moments of the first quarter.

Lane extended the lead to 17-7 early in the second quarter with his second touchdown of the game, a one-yard blast on fourth down.

The Warhawks went two games without an offensive turnover before Lancaster was intercepted by Jord Peterson at the Aggies' two-yard line halfway through the second quarter; Peterson returned it 54 yards. Lancaster finished 13-of-23 for 116 yards and the two interceptions.

Texas A&M capitalized on the turnover extending its lead to 24-7 on a seven-yard touchdown run by Mike Goodson. The Aggies put three points on the board following the second interception of the second quarter by Lancaster; Szymanski put through a 19-yard field goal pushing the lead to 27-7 at the half.

The Aggies took their opening drive of the second half 80 yards for a touchdown capped off by a 20-yard pass from McGee to Kerry Franks. ULM's opponents have scored on the opening possession of the second half in all three games this season.

Backup quarterback Jerrod Johnson put A&M up 41-7 with a seven-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter. Johnson scored again from 26 yards out and Keondra Smith ran it in from five yard pushing the final score to 54-14.

Freshman Frank Goodin scored from one-yard out midway through the fourth quarter for the Warhawks capping a season-long 17-play drive. Goodin finished with 72 yards on 16 carries after rushing for 102 yards against Clemson last week.

The Warhawks are off next weekend before traveling to Troy to take on the defending Sun Belt Champions on September 29. The game against the Trojans (1-2, 0-0) will be televised live by CSS at 6:00 pm.

* ULM received the opening kickoff for the first time this season; it lost the coin toss for the second time (Tulsa won the toss and elected to receive the opening kick).

* Dawson went over 100 yards in the fourth quarter marking the eighth-consecutive game he has gone over 100 yards in a game, which is the second best streak in the nation behind Tashard Choice of Georgia Tech (nine straight)

* Dawson has now gone over 100 yards in five consecutive games against BCS conference schools (Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Clemson, Texas A&M).

* Dawson moved into third place all-time on the ULM career rushing list with 2,361 yards passing Nathan Johnson (1977-80) who has 2,330.

* Dawson's 42 receiving yards is a new career high; his previous best was 37 yards at Kansas last season.

* Dawson caught his first pass of the season in the first quarter, it went for five yards.

* Dawson took sole possession of third place on the ULM career rushing touchdown list with his one-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. He now has 20 in his career and needs just two more to tie the school record.

* Freshman running back Frank Goodin scored his second career touchdown in the fourth quarter

* Senior linebacker Matt Freeman made his first career start.

* The ULM starting offensive line of Kyle Cunningham, Aaron Schutz, Adam Hill, Patrick Avinger and Larry Shappley have now started a combined 143 games between the group.

* Offensive tackle Kyle Cunningham and center Adam Hill extended their consecutive games started streak to 37 games; they has started every game of their career.

* Texas A&M became the first team to convert a fourth-down attempt against the Warhawks this season with its conversion in the first quarter.

* With a reception in the first quarter wide receiver LaGregory Sapp has now caught a pass in 15-consecutive games.

* ULM has scored a touchdown in the first quarter of all three games this season.

* The field goal by Texas A&M in the first quarter was the first by an ULM opponent this season.

* Mitch Doyle caught his first pass of the season in the first quarter.

* Kinsmon Lancaster's interception in the second quarter was the first turnover committed by the ULM offense this season. The Warhawks other turnover of the season was a fumble by safety Greg James following an interception.

* ULM's opponents have scored on the opening drive of the second half in all three games this season

* Tight end Mitch Doyle broke his lower left leg in the second quarter and is out for the season
