MONROE,
La. --- The ULM volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-16) match
Sunday afternoon to Arkansas State in the ULM Activity Center.
Arkansas
State (18-6, 7-3 Sun Belt) setter Laura Bennett recorded a match-high 36
assists while Kristen Catalane added 10 kills for the Red Wolves. ULM (1-21,
0-8) was led by freshman setter Helen Theisen's 28 assists and junior Mari O'Neal's
10 kills.
ASU
jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in the first set behind a pair of Konae Purcell
kills and a Bennett service ace. ULM was not able to overcome the Red Wolves .414
hitting percentage as they would later add a 10-4 run in the middle of the set
to secure the frame, 25-16.
During
the second set neither team wanted to take control as there were 15 ties. With the
score locked at 19-19, ASU took control and put together a 6-3 run to end second
set, 25-22.
The Red
Wolves again jumped out to an early lead, 4-0, in the third set off a pair of
Warhawk errors. ASU hit an astonishing .609 in the third set behind five kills
from Christin Baker.
The ULM
volleyball team hosts UALR Monday night at 6 p.m. in the ULM Activity Center. Admission
to all Warhawk volleyball matches is free.
