LITTLE
ROCK, Ark. ?
The ball hit the posts and crossbars, but refused to find the back of the net for
the ULM soccer team in a 2-0 loss against UALR at Burns Park in Little Rock,
Ark. on Friday night.
ULM (4-6, 1-2 Sun Belt) kept the ball on
frame all evening long, shooting 18 times with 14 stopped by Trojan keeper Jane
Picarelli. Those shots not on frame managed to find the posts and the crossbars
? refusing to go in.
“Tonight just wasn't our night,” ULM head
coach Stacy Lamb said. “We were aggressive on offense and really controlled the
tempo on defense. Give credit to UALR, they were able to score a goal late in
the second half and take the momentum from us.”
UALR (6-5-1, 2-1 Sun Belt) finally tallied
the game-winning goal in the 76th minute. Kristen Semko received a
pass deep behind the ULM defense and deposited it past a diving Mallory George.
The Trojans would add a final score with 1:01
remaining on the clock when Grace Rich beat George inside the box for her
eighth score of the season.
Starting the 70th-consecutive
start of her career, senior Rachel Hobson finished with a team-high four shots
on goal. Sophomore Tiffany Bombard added three against frame and one blocked by
the Trojan post.
ULM will look to get back on track starting Sunday
when it travels to Jonesboro, Ark. for a 1 p.m. match against Arkansas State.
