MONROE, La.?Coming off its best
season since joining Division I-A, ULM
announced the 2008 football schedule on Monday featuring six home dates.
“We are
excited about the upcoming season and we feel like this schedule gives us a
chance to be successful,” ULM
head coach Charlie Weatherbie said.
The
Warhawks open the season on August 30 at perennial Southeastern Conference
power Auburn. ULM continues its tour of the SEC West Division with a
home game against Arkansas in Little Rock, Ark.,
on Sept. 6.
“Our guys
are going to have a lot of confidence heading into those opening two games,”
Weatherbie said. “Anytime you beat a
team out of the SEC, especially the caliber of a program like Alabama, it's going to give you that extra
boost of confidence when you take on teams like that again.”
ULM stunned the nation last season defeating Alabama 21-14 in Bryant-Denny Stadium on Nov.17.
Sept. 13
marks the first game of the season in Malone Stadium as the Warhawks welcome
Alabama A&M to town.
ULM heads down to New Orleans,
La., on Sept. 20 for a showdown
with Tulane in the Louisiana Superdome.
It is just the second meeting between the two schools with
the first coming in 2002.
Following
an off week, ULM
opens the Sun Belt Conference schedule with four of its first five league games
at home. The slate starts with in-state
rival Louisiana-Lafayette on Oct. 4 in Malone Stadium. The Warhawks have won five of the last six
meetings between the two state schools.
“It's
always nice to have a lot of home games early on in the season,” Weatherbie
said. “The fans have a great opportunity
to come out and enjoy some nice weather and give us a great home field
advantage.”
A trip to Jonesboro, Ark., for a
game with Arkansas
State on Oct. 11 splits
up the homestand.
Following
the game against the newly named Red Wolves, the Warhawks host North Texas on Oct. 17.
Defending Sun Belt Champion Florida Atlantic visits Malone Stadium on
Oct. 25 and Troy
closes out the home portion of the 2008 schedule on Nov. 1.
ULM ends the season with three straight
road games at Middle Tennessee (Nov. 8), Ole Miss (Nov. 15) and Florida
International (Nov. 22).
The
Warhawks begin spring practice on Friday with three dates before taking off for
spring break. The team will hold their
annual Maroon & Gold Game at noon on Saturday, April 19 in Malone Stadium.
