WACO, Texas ? The pitchers did their part, but the offense sputtered for the ULM softball team in a pair of shutout losses at No. 13 Baylor on the opening day of a weekend series in Waco, Texas Saturday evening.
In facing their fourth Top 25 ranked opponent on the season, ULM (6-10) mustered only a combined six hits on the day in the two games.
In game one Baylor (11-3) took advantage of a mistake pitch by senior Lindsay Rittenhouse (2-5) for their only score of the game. After a walk and a hit in the second inning, the Bears picked up a three-run homer from Meagan Weldon. Rittenhouse and sophomore Kandace Causey would silence the Bear's bats from there, but the damage had been done.
Brittany Turner allowed only three baserunners in the opener to claim the 3-0 victory.
In the second game, the Bears capitalized on four Warhawks errors to claim the 6-0 victory. BU jumped out to an early 2-0 lead against ULM starter Heather Fritz (1-1) and never looked back. Baylor added two more runs in the second inning and two in the fourth for the final score.
The Warhawks and Bears will conclude the three-game series on Sunday at 1 p.m. from Getterman Stadium in Waco, Texas.
