WACO, Texas ? The ULM softball team's bats went silent Sunday afternoon in a 3-0 loss at 13th-ranked Baylor at Getterman Stadium in Waco, Texas in the final contest of the three-game weekend series.
The Warhawks mustered just one hit and five total base runners in dropping their fourth-consecutive decision away from the ULM Softball Complex. The game marked ULM's fourth straight against a ranked opponent.
ULM (6-11) picked up a solid effort in the circle from both sophomore Kandace Causey (3-4) and freshman Jessica Wideman in allowing only five hits to the Baylor (12-3) offense. Wideman worked the final 2 2/3 innings and allowed only one hit.
Baylor would pick up all the runs they would need on one swing of the bat by Brette Reagan. With two outs in the first inning and a runner on first, Reagan launched a home run over the left field fence.
BU would add a third run in the fourth inning after an error, double and single allowed Tiffany Wesley to score for the final 3-0 score.
Sophomore Michelle Farrell-Fink picked up the Warhawks lone hit of the game in the top of the seventh inning, but ULM stranded a pair of base runners in the inning. Junior Erica Darden walked twice to reach base a team-high two times.
ULM returns to action on Tuesday, March 4 when it travels to Jackson, Miss. for a 5 p.m. doubleheader against Jackson State to wrap up a 10-game stretch away from Monroe. The Warhawks will host league-foe North Texas starting March 8 in the first games at the ULM Softball Complex since February 17.
