MONROE, La.?Five players recorded
three or more hits as ULM exploded for a 21-9
victory over McNeese
State Wednesday night at
Warhawk Field in non-conference action.
Matt
Collins and Dexter Fontenot both went 4-for-4 with four RBIs and a home run to
lead the Warhawks (24-12, 14-4 Sun Belt) who have now scored 10 or more runs in
five straight games ? averaging 14.2 runs during that stretch.
Nick
Maragas (4-for-5), Jon Prevost (3-for-3), Kyle Suire (3-for-5), A.J. Siggers
(2-for-4), Matt Laird (2-for-6) and Nick Wade (2-for-4) all recorded multiple
hits for ULM
who scored in 6-of-8 innings.
In two
games against the Cowboys this season, ULM
has combined for 30 runs, 36 hits and 19 extra-base hits.
Suire moved
into a tie for 10th place all-time with his 19th career
home run ? a two-run blast in the second inning ? putting the Warhawks on top
7-4 after McNeese State's (10-26) Mace Hebert hit a grand slam in the top half
of the inning.
The
Warhawks extended their lead to 14-5 in the third with their second straight
six run inning, capped by a three-run double to the gap in right center by
Collins.
The 21 runs
are the most by ULM since the Warhawks
scored 25 against Grambling
State on April 7, 2006.
Devin
Pourciau (2-1) threw six innings for the Warhawks allowing seven runs ? five earned
? scattering seven hits to pick up the victory.
Cowboy
starter Jona Conrad (1-5) lasted just two innings allowing eight runs on 11
hits.
The
Warhawks look to stay atop the Sun Belt Conference standings when they host
Middle Tennessee (20-14-1, 9-8) this weekend in a three-game series beginning
Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
