MONROE, La.?The ULM football team held its end-of-year awards ceremony Friday night as the team prepares for its
annual Maroon & Gold Spring Game Saturday at 12:00 p.m. in Malone Stadium
Head
coach Charlie Weatherbie and his staff presented the 2007 Sun Belt All Conference
honorees with their hardware, in addition to several team awards.
Ten
Warhawks earned All-Sun Belt honors led by first team selections running back Calvin
Dawson, offensive lineman Kyle Cunningham and punter Scott Love.
Senior
offensive lineman Adam Hill was presented with the John David Crow Academic
Award given to the highest achieving student-athlete. Crow is a former ULM head football coach and athletics director and was inducted into the ULM Hall of Fame earlier this month.
Senior offensive lineman Patrick Avinger was presented with
the Al Miller Award for his dedication in strength and conditioning. Al Miller
is a former strength and conditioning coach at ULM and a member of the ULM Sports Hall of
Fame as a receiver.
Senior linebacker Ricky Williams was presented the Chip Luffey Award. The award is given a senior player who exemplifies
sportsmanship, leadership, and good character.
It was established in 1981 in memory of Chip Luffey, a former ULM student, by Bucky McElroy, a successful businessman
and supporter of ULM.
Cunningham was presented the President's Award which is given to the
highest achieving student-athlete who also contributes on the playing field.
Weatherbie
also presented awards to the permanent captains (Hill, Cunningham, defensive
tackle Kendall Mouton and place kicker Cole Wilson) and TP Outdoors Hammer
Award winners.
Senior cornerback Quintez Secka was honored for
receiving a helmet sticker by the ESPN College GameDay Final crew for his two interceptions in ULM's 21-14 victory at Alabama.
The Warhawks eight Sun Belt Players of the
Week were honored in addition to Zeek Zacharie who was named John Mackey
National Tight End of the Week following the Florida Atlantic game.
The coaching staff also handed out awards for the most
improved player at each position during the spring. The winners were: Ty Kittle (TE), Alex Chace
(ST), Sean Hornberger (ST), Andrew Stout (OL), Emmanuel Lockett (OL), Kinsmon
Lancaster (QB), Anthony McCall (WR), Robert Williams (RB), Ken Dorsey (LB),
Otis Stamps (CB), Chance Payne (S), Travis Eickman (DL).
