RUSTON, La. ? ULM junior Tony Hooper was named to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-Louisiana Second Team by a vote of the state's media the organization announced on Saturday evening.
Hooper, a guard from Houston, Texas, led the Warhawks in scoring during the 2007-08 campaign after averaging 15.1 points per contest. Hooper became the 35th player in program history to surpass the 1,000-point mark for his career, moving as high as 17th on the list by the end of the season.
The Aldine HS product finished the season with 72 assists, the second highest total on the team, and a team-leading 47 steals. Hooper also posted a team-high 11 games of 20 or more points.
Fellow Sun Belt Conference player Bo McCalebb was named state player of the year after leading New Orleans and the league in scoring. He was joined on the first team by LSU's Anthony Randolph and Marcus Thornton, LSU-Shrevport's Josh Porter, and Tulane's David Gomez.
LSU-Shreveport's head coach Chad McDowell was awarded Coach of the Year after leading the Pilots to a 31-3 record during the 2007-08 season.
