Soccer

MONROE, La. ? The ULM soccer team and head coach Stacy Lamb announced Tuesday morning that Aaron Cline will assume the role of assistant coach for the 2008 season. Cline's hire is pending approval by the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors.

“I am extremely excited to be joining the soccer program at ULM,” Cline said. “It has been my goal to get into collegiate coaching. I am thankful for the opportunity to work with Stacy Lamb and ULM, and am looking forward to continuing to help the program grow.”

Cline joins the Warhawks staff after spending the previous five seasons in multiple capacities with the Zionsville Youth Soccer Association in Zionsville, Ind. Since 2004 he served as the organization's Director of Coaching and Player Development.

While Director of Coaching, Cline oversaw the development of clinics for ZYSA coaches that dealt with all aspects of business including serving as the primary contact with the organizations apparel sponsor, Puma. He also helped train coaches, worked on scheduling and helped educate parents.

As the Director of Player Development, Cline evaluated all the organization's players and coaches and their interactions with each other. He also suggested and implemented training programs for the coaches to assist with improvement and development.

In only five years with ZYSA, he helped turn the program into one of the larger soccer associations in the state of Indiana. The club grew from seven travel teams at the time of his appointment to 28 with a recreational program of more than 950 individuals.

He also served as the head coach of the '94 Boys since the summer of 2003. While with the group, his team was promoted in classification three times, going from the Indiana Youth Soccer ?B' Division in the Indiana Premier League. During the 2007 season, the Cline-led '94 Boys were Indiana State Challenge Cup Semi-Finalists.

Cline also coached the Zionsville Eagles '91 Select team, a U17 Girls program, while with ZYSA.

A four-time letterwinner as an outside and central midfielder, Cline earned a bachelors' degree in marketing from Saint Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Ind. in May of 2003. Since graduation, he has earned multiple coaching licenses including a United States Soccer Federation National ?B' License in 2008.

He also holds a National Soccer Coaches Association of America state and regional goalkeeping diploma, USSF National Youth License and served as a trainer and assistant coach for the Indiana Olympic Development Pool.

“I am very excited about the addition of Aaron Cline to our program,” Lamb said. “He is a great field coach with an unflappable enthusiasm and eagerness. With a tremendous work ethic and desire to be a collegiate coach, he is going to be a fantastic coach for ULM. We are extremely excited to have him.

Cline fills the assistant coach position vacated when Freddy Delgado accepted the open head coaching spot at UALR in May.
