MONROE, La.?The inaugural ULM Fan
Weekend was a huge success as hundreds of fans came out to Malone Stadium on
Friday and Saturday to help the Warhawks kick off the 2008 season.
The festivities began Friday
evening with live music from the Mason Grenade Band, autographs by all of the ULM
teams, a visit from ULM mascot Ace, the Warhawk cheerleaders and more.
Attention then turned to the turf
in Malone Stadium as fans watched the football team practice in preparations for
the season opener at Auburn.
The weekend continued Saturday
morning as the Warhawks conducted a free football clinic and signed autographs for
all children in attendance.
“I know our players love doing
this and I'm sure the young kids enjoyed it as well,” ULM head coach Charlie
Weatherbie said. “This is a great event
for the community and outreach for the athletics department and our football
team. The clinic gets bigger every year
and it's fun to have all these kids out here.”
Weatherbie's weekly radio show,
Hawk Talk, begins this Tuesday at 7 p.m. on 104.1 FM. Fans are encouraged to join the action at Schulze
Cafeteria on the ULM Campus or by e-mailing questions to hawktalk@ulm.edu.
The Quarterback Club
Luncheons also begin this week. The weekly luncheons take place on Wednesday at noon in the Anna Gray Noe Alumni
Center overlooking Bayou DeSiard on Warhawk Way. Reservations are not
required and the cost of the catered lunch is just eight dollars.
The season opener at Auburn will be televised on pay-per-view in
Alabama and Louisiana and nationally on ESPN GamePlan. Fans should call
their local satellite or cable provider to order or for more information.
