ULM Soccer Falls at Belmont, 3-2

FRANKLIN, Tenn. ? The ULM soccer team dug itself into an early hole and could not recover in a 3-2 loss against Belmont in the opening game of the Mafiaoz's Belmont Women's Invitational Tournament in Franklin, Tenn. on Friday evening.

ULM (3-1) struggled on offense early and finished the game with only a total of five shot attempts, two of which were on frame.

“We came out very flat today and didn't' execute the game plan,” ULM head coach Stacy Lamb said. “We dug ourselves a hole early and just couldn't get out of it. You can't put yourself in that situation against a good team and expect to win every time.”

Sophomore Tiffany Bombard connected on her third goal of the season to open the scoring in the 13th minute and make it a 1-0 Warhawk lead. Bombard blasted a shot over the goalkeeper from just outside 20 yards after receiving a pass from freshman Maddy Ocon.

Belmont (5-2) would respond quickly and tie the game at 1-1 in the 20th minute after Alex Morgado connected on her first score of the season. The Bruins would take the lead at 2-1 six minutes later when Madison Porter hit on her first goal of the season.

BU would extend their advantage to 3-1 in the second half after Charlotte Blake scored off a corner in the 66th minute.

Freshman Lindsey Tubbs would cut into the lead after scoring the first goal of her career in the 80th minute, an unassisted score up the middle.

“I have said all along that we have a resilient group,” Lamb said. “I am confident that we will refocus and come out ready to play on Sunday against Murray State.”

ULM will look to get back in the win column on Sunday when it takes on Murray State at 12 p.m. The Racers lost on day one of the tournament, 4-0, to Sun Belt Conference-foe Western Kentucky.
