JONESBORO, Ark. --- The ULM volleyball team hurt itself with six errors en route to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-20) loss in Sun Belt play Sunday in Jonesboro, Ark., against Arkansas State.

ULM (1-14, 0-2 Sun Belt) came out attacking behind senior Johanna Spreen and sophomore Stephanie Wardach and led 6-2 early. Arkansas State (12-4, 2-1 Sun Belt) would respond with a 6-2 run, tying the first set at eight apiece. The Red Wolves would then make an 11-4 run behind six Warhawk attacking errors, to take a 19-12 lead and never looked back.

Spreen blasted a pair of kills, but it wouldn't be enough as the Red Wolves took the first set, 25-21.

“Everyday is a learning experience,” head coach John Schmidt said. “We are starting to learn the game and tonight we played well at stretches. The turning point is coming where we will fully understand the game and react instead of think first.”

ASU jumped out to an early 9-1 lead in the second set thanks to four Red Wolf kills and three Warhawk errors. The front line of the Red Wolves proved to be to much after accounting for 13 kills in the set. The Warhawks had four service errors before eventually falling, 25-13, in the second set.

In set three, the Warhawks would again trail early, 13-4, behind five attacking errors by ULM. The Red Wolves never looked back on their way to the 25-20 win.

The ASU frontline accounted for a combined 40 total kills in the three sets.

The Warhawks were led by Spreen's 10 kills, and double-digit digs, 12, by sophomore Christy Tribble's and freshman Michelle Messing. Freshman Kayci Miller would also add 18 assists.

ULM volleyball will be in action on Tuesday, Sept. 30, in the ULM Activity Center at 7 p.m. against Northwestern State. The Warhawks will then hit the road for a pair of Sun Belt matches at North Texas on Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. and at Denver on Oct. 4, at 7 p.m.
