MONROE, La. --- The ULM volleyball team dropped its final non-conference match
of the season 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-20) to Northwestern State Tuesday night in
the ULM Activity Center.
The
Warhawks (1-15, 0-2 Sun Belt) front line stepped up and recorded a season-high 10
blocks but 37 Lady Demon (6-5) kills were the deciding factors.
ULM
led early in set one taking a 6-1 advantage on five Lady Demon attacking
errors. The Warhawks wavered themselves despite a pair Christy Tribble service
aces allowing an 8-3 run, tying the set at nine apiece. Both teams would battle
point-for-point until the Lady Demons took a one-point advantage at 16-15 and
never looked back.
Set
two started with a pair of ties before the Warhawks made an 8-2 run. ULM then grabbed
a 12-6 lead behind five different Warhawk kills. Despite a trio of ULM service
aces, eight errors led to the Warhawks defeat in set two, 25-22.
The
Lady Demon's balanced attack continued into the third set behind Megan
Dockery's match-high 33 assists. The Warhawks were not able to overcome nine
NSU service aces, two coming in the third set.
The
Warhawks were led by freshman Kayci Miller's 20 assists and Tribble's 10 digs.
Freshman Mahogany Dilonga tied her season-high with three blocks.
The
Warhawks will hit the road for a pair of Sun Belt matches this week starting
Thursday, Oct. 2, at North Texas at 7 p.m. The Warhawks will then travel to the
Mile High City Saturday, Oct. 4, for a match against Denver starting at 7 p.m.
