ULM Soccer Falls at Florida International, 5-1

MIAMI, Fla. - The ULM women's soccer team dropped a 5-1 decision at Florida International on Sunday (Oct. 11) afternoon. Junior forward Ashleigh Fitterer scored the lone goal of the contest for the Warhawks.

FIU opened the scoring in the 28th minute as Deana Rossi scored off an assist from Jessica Gambill. Gambill started the play by dribbling between a pair of Warhawks before crossing to Rossi who found the back of the net.

The Golden Panthers doubled their advantage at 33:52 as April Perry scored for FIU. Casey Thames was credited with an assist on the marker by Perry.

ULM cut the FIU lead in half in the 41st minute as Fitterer scored her second goal of the season. Junior midfielder Amy Porch earned her first point of the season with an assist on the Fitterer goal.

FIU took the 2-1 lead into the intermission. The Golden Panthers held an 8-4 advantage in shots in the opening 45 minutes.

Following the break, Rossi doubled FIU's lead in the 53rd minute as she tallied her second goal of the contest; Amy Bergin earned an assist on the goal.

At 78:58, the Golden Panthers scored their fourth goal of the match as Perry recorded her second goal. Katrina Rose assisted on Perry's second goal.

FIU concluded the scoring in the 86th minute as Kelsey Rene found the back of the net to create the final score line. Marina Pappas set up Rene for the goal.

FIU outshot ULM 10-4 in the second half to hold an 18-8 overall shot advantage. Fitterer and senior midfielder Britnie Markham each had a pair of shots for the Warhawks. Senior goalkeeper Mallory George made four saves in goal for ULM.

The Warhawks will return to action next weekend as they host a pair of games at the ULM Soccer Complex. ULM will host Middle Tennessee on Friday (Oct. 16) at 4 p.m., and will also play Western Kentucky on Sunday (Oct. 18) at 1 p.m.
