JONESBORO, Ark. - Mari O'Neal led the ULM
volleyball team in kills for the second-consecutive match, however, Arkansas
State claimed a 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-15) Sun Belt Conference match on Sunday
afternoon inside the Convocation Center.
O'Neal paced ULM (3-22, 0-10) with 10 kills
on 24 attempts. Meghan McCoy added 17 assists, while Christy Tribble led the
defense with 10 digs.
Brittany Hoag finished with a match-high 12
kills for Arkansas State (16-8, 6-4). Laura Bennett chipped in 31 assists and
Heather Bowman added 17 digs.
After three-consecutive ULM points to cut the
deficit to one, 6-5, in the opening set, Arkansas State scored six of the next
seven points to extend its lead back out to 12-6. The Red Wolves went on to
claim the frame, 25-11, as Brittany Hoag smashed five kills in the set.
Arkansas State capitalized on
three-consecutive ULM attacking errors to push its lead from two points to
eight, 16-8, in the middle section of the second stanza. The Red Wolves earned
a second set win after they finished with a .077 attacking percentage, compared
to the Warhawks -.171 attacking percentage.
Cayla Fielder recorded two of Arkansas State's
final four kills as the Red Wolves closed the door with a 6-0 run to claim the
third set, 25-15, and straight set match win.
ULM returns to the friendly confines of the
ULM Activity Center on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. against Western Kentucky for the
first of three straight home matches. The Warhawks also battle Middle Tennessee
on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
