Second Half Surge Lifts Troy Over ULM Soccer

Troy, Ala. – The ULM women's soccer team played a scoreless first 45 minutes at Troy on Sunday (Oct. 25), but the Trojans took control of the contest in the second half, downing the Warhawks, 4-0. Laura Hopson scored a pair of goals to lead the Troy attack.

ULM (2-13-1, 1-8) had the better of the play in the first stanza, outshooting Troy, 9-3, before the intermission. Trojan goalkeeper Ashley Branham made four saves in the first half, she finished the contest with five stops.

Following the break, Troy (8-9-1, 4-6) broke the deadlock when Hopson opened the scoring at the 55:16 mark. Hopson headed home a goal off a free kick by Bridget Duke to give Troy the lead. Duke fed Hopson again for a goal in the 66th minute to double the advantage for the Trojans.

Troy found the back of the net for the third time at the 68:21 mark when Mary Morris scored off an assist by April Madden.

Madden then scored a goal of her own in the 73rd minute to finish the scoring, Katie Cooper set up Madden on the final goal of the contest.

Troy outshot ULM, 8-4, in the second half. For the match, the Warhawks held a 13-11 advantage in shots. Junior forward Tiffany Bombard had a game-high five attempts at goal for ULM. Junior defender Raydan Phillips added another three shots while sophomore forward Lindsey Tubbs took two shots in the contest. Senior goalkeeper Mallory George played the full 90 minutes in goal for the Warhawks and made three saves.

ULM will return to action on Friday (Oct. 30) when the Warhawks host Louisiana-Lafayette at the ULM Soccer Complex. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
