ULM Soccer Earns Comeback Victory Over Louisiana-Lafayette On Senior Day

MONROE, La. – Junior forward Tiffany Bombard scored 1:40 into the second overtime to give the ULM women's soccer team a 3-2, come-from-behind victory over Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 31) at the NELSA Soccer Complex.

Bombard and sophomore forward Lindsey Tubbs scored during regulation for the Warhawks while senior goalkeeper Mallory George made seven saves in the victory.

Louisiana-Lafayette (2-16-1, 2-9) took a 2-0 lead in the first half, despite ULM outshooting the Ragin' Cajuns, 12-7. Cayla Chatman opened the scoring for Louisiana-Lafayette at the 20:03 mark with an unassisted tally. Just 2:15 later, Chatman doubled the Ragin' Cajuns lead with a goal off an assist from Dani Presley.

ULM (3-13-2, 2-8) began its comeback in the 64th minute as Tubbs scored her team-high fourth goal of the season, cutting the Louisiana-Lafayette lead to 2-1. Junior forward Ashleigh Fitterer and Bombard registered assists on the Tubbs marker. Bombard then tied the contest at 73:45 with a goal off an assist from sophomore defender Emily LyBarger.

The Warhawks continued to dominate possession and the scoring chances in the remainder of the second half, outshooting ULL 17-7 in the second 45 minutes, but were unable to find the net for a third time in regulation. ULM also earned six corner kicks in the second half to just one for the Ragin' Cajuns.

In the first half of overtime, ULM continued to dominate possession, outshooting Louisiana-Lafayette 4-1, but the 10 minute session ended scoreless, sending the game into a second overtime period.

In the 102nd minute, Tubbs moved down the right side, cutting in toward the Louisiana-Lafayette goal before feeding the ball toward the six-yard box. Bombard got on the end of the cross and slid it under the Louisiana-Lafayette goalkeeper for the game-winning tally. The goal was Bombard's third of the season.

ULM outshot Louisiana-Lafayette, 34-16, in the contest.

Prior to the match, the Warhawks honored their three seniors, George, midfielder Britnie Markham and defender Raydan Phillips, who are playing their final weekend at ULM.

Tomorrow, ULM will conclude its season as it hosts Arkansas State at the NELSA Soccer Complex. Game time is scheduled for noon.
