Lamar Cruises in 2nd Half over ULM Women, 88-56

MONROE, La. - Lamar jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as it claimed an 88-56 non-conference win over the ULM women's basketball team on Saturday inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

The Lady Cardinals led by 10 points at the intermission and increased their lead to as many as 32 in the game. Lamar's bench finished with 48 points, while the ULM non-starters tallied 23 points.

Offensively, the Warhawks committed 25 turnovers and the Lady Cardinals turned those errors into 29 points. Lamar finished 32-for-64 from the field, 50 percent, and shot 59.4 percent in the second half alone. ULM, on the other hand, concluded the game 20-for-55 from the floor, 36.4 percent.

"I am so aggravated right now," ULM head coach Mona Martin said. "This is the second game in a row that we haven't given our full effort. We need to figure it out quickly, because our play is not only embarrassing for ourselves, but for our fans."

Priscilla Mbiandja led ULM (4-4) with 17 points, including a perfect 9-for-9 at the charity stripe. Shannon Davis chipped in five points, nine rebounds, and two steals. Elizabeth Torres finished with seven points, four rebounds, and four assists.

Kalis Loyd led four Lamar (7-2) players in double-figures with 17 points, to go along with five assists. Jenna Plumley concluded the game with nine points, seven rebounds, six assists, and four steals.

Lamar built an eight point lead, 21-13, with 8:24 remaining in the opening period, after Plumley drained a 3-pointer from the right wing. Prior to the long ball, the Lady Cardinals had scored 16 of their 18 points in the paint.

The Lady Cardinals took a 35-25 lead into the break, after their bench scored 19 points and they pounded the ball into the paint for 18 points. Brittney Williams recorded 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting for the Lady Cardinals, while Mbiandja tallied eight points for the Warhawks.

Mbiandja made a 12-foot jumper to cut ULM's deficit to eight, 39-31, with 16:53 remaining in the second half before Lamar exploded. The Lady Cardinals outscored the Warhawks over the remainder of the contest 49-25.

The 32-point loss was the worst defeat since the season-opener last season when, Arkansas took a 77-38 non-conference game over ULM.

ULM's next game is a home non-conference contest against McNeese State on Friday at 7 p.m. inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
