Warhawks Fall to Central Arkansas and Centenary in 21st Annual Mardi Gras Classic

Softball
MONROE, La. ? The ULM softball team dropped both games on the final day of the Mardi Gras Classic on Sunday after bowing to Central Arkansas 6-2 in the opener and 6-1 to Centenary in the finale at the ULM Softball Complex.

Molly McNeill hit two home runs on the weekend and was named to the all-tournament team along with fellow Warhawk Sarah Carriger.  Carriger batted a remarkable .583 for the tournament and was solid in the field all weekend, committing no errors from second base.

Caitlin Cavarra of Centenary was named the MVP of the Mardi Gras Classic as the Ladies went 3-1 on the weekend and claimed the tournament championship. Central Arkansas came in second, Southeast Missouri State finished third, and ULM came in fourth.

ULM (3-6) got on the board early against Central Arkansas (4-6) when McNeill drove in Carriger on an RBI-single to left field. The Warhawks got another run on McNeill's home run to left-center field in the top of the third inning.

The Bears got a run in the bottom of the fourth inning on Katie McGregor's RBI-bunt-single. ULM clung to a 2-1 lead until Central Arkansas tacked on five runs to secure the victory in the bottom of the sixth inning. Three of those runs came on Kasey Britt's bases-clearing double.

Centenary (7-2) jumped on the Warhawks early, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. The second run came on an RBI bunt-single from Katie Matthews. The Ladies would get a pair of home runs from Allison Shepperd and Lindsey Smith on their way to scoring six runs in the victory.

Michelle Farrell-Fink drove in Brianna Love with a single to center field in the bottom of the fifth inning, but it wasn't enough as the Ladies were too much for the Warhawks, winning it 6-1.

ULM will be back in action Wednesday when it travels to Shreveport, La., to play Centenary once again in a non-conference showdown with its in-state rival at 5:30 p.m.
