MONROE, La. ? Arkansas State spoiled senior
day with late free throws in a 66-63 victory over the ULM women's basketball
team inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.
Lottie Moore made a pair of free throws with
26 seconds on the clock to give ULM a one point lead. Arkansas State answered
with four free throws in the final 14 seconds to reclaim its lead and take the
victory.
For the second-consecutive contest ULM's
defensive annoyed its opponent to 30-plus turnovers and it scored 26 points off
the Red Wolves errors. The downfall for the Warhawks was their 36.1 shooting
percentage (22-of-61) that was far less than the 51.2 percent (22-of-43) by the
Red Wolves.
Moore led all scorers and ULM (14-15, 7-11) with
a game-high 19 points including 10-of-13 from the free throw line to go along
with eight rebounds and four assists. Jesse Carrier and Ashley Wallis added 11
and 10 points, respectively.
Arkansas State (16-13, 10-8) was led by
Sherina Scott's 15 points, while Eboine Jefferson and Caroline Starr added 12
and 11 points, respectively. Veronica Smith led all post players with a
game-high 11 rebounds.
The Warhawks led by as many as seven points with
6:16 remaining in the first half. Carrier led the ULM charge with three first
half long balls to give the Warhawks a 35-29 lead at intermission.
ULM also led for the majority of the second half,
but Arkansas State's 13-of-14 free throws (80 percent) in the second period was the
difference down the stretch.
ULM's next opponent is undetermined at this
point for the first round of the conference tournament which starts on
Wednesday. The Warhawks do however know that they will be on the road
with a tip time of 7 p.m. ULMAthletics.com will release the Warhawks next
opponent Sunday night.
