Troy Squashes ULM Rallies ? Sweeps Warhawks in Doubleheader

TROY, Ala. ? Ashlyn Williams and Allison Moore combined to strand 12 Warhawk baserunners in the doubleheader as the ULM softball team dropped a pair of contests to Troy Saturday afternoon at the Troy Softball Complex. The Trojans took the first game, 5-4, and the second via the run rule, 9-0.

The Trojans (22-6, 5-0 Sun Belt) took a 5-0 lead on an RBI-single from Nikki Hollett, and held off the Warhawks (8-18, 2-3 Sun Belt) after they posted a furious four-run rally in the sixth inning of the first game. Brianna Love led ULM with two hits and two RBI in the game, but it wasn't quite enough as Troy went on to win.

Ashlyn Williams (W, 14-5) was able to get out of multiple jams to record the victory as she struck out 11 Warhawks while allowing just two walks. Kandace Causey (L, 5-8) pitched well in the loss as she didn't allow a walk in the contest.

Allison Moore (W, 8-1) gave up just three hits while the Trojans pounded out 13 hits on offense as Troy took the second game via run rule, 9-0. Tasha Elmore hit two home runs and Hollett added one of her own as the Trojan offense was relentless in the victory.

In the first game the Trojans got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Hayden Gann ripped an RBI-single to right field. Gann added to Troy's lead in the bottom of the third inning when she smacked a two-run double to left center as the Trojans led 3-0.

ULM loaded the bases in the top of the third inning with only one out, but Williams got an out at the plate and a strikeout to get out of the jam. The Warhawks loaded the bases again in the top of the fourth inning, but Williams got another strikeout to end the threat as the Warhawks left seven runners on base for the game.

ULM finally got on the board in the top of the sixth inning when it rallied to score four runs in the frame.   Brianna Love smacked a two-run single to center field, but was called out for leaving third base early later in the inning when attempting to score the tying-run on a sacrifice fly. Troy would get three straight outs in the seventh inning to secure the win.

The Trojans jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning of the second contest when Elmore drove in two runs after a throwing error allowed the inning to continue. The Warhawks loaded the bases in the bottom of the frame, but Moore got out of the jam with a strikeout to end the inning.

Troy added three more runs in the third inning highlighted by a two-run home run to center field from Elmore as the Trojans led 6-0. Elmore's second home run followed by Hollet's blast boosted the lead to, 9-0, in the fourth inning as Troy cruised to the victory in the second contest.

The Warhawks will be back in action tomorrow at 9 a.m. to complete the three-game set with the Trojans at the Troy .Softball Complex.
