Yarmer provided the big blow by connecting on a two-run homer to left field to
help visiting Tulsa defeat the Warhawks 3-0 at the ULM Softball Complex on
Thursday evening.
Tulsa (17-9) got on the board in the fourth
inning with thanks to a two-out RBI single by Stephanie Chomicki and put the
game out of reach one inning later with Yarmer's blast.
ULM (10-19) had its chances early, but Golden
Hurricane pitcher Katie Lee (W, 5-3) scattered five singles over a complete
seven innings to end any scoring threats. After going down in order in the
opening frame, the Warhawks had runners on the corners with one out, but couldn't
plate the game's first run.
The Warhawks would put two runners on base
again in the second inning off a pair of base hits, but couldn't pass second as
Lee worked out of the jam. ULM managed a lone hit in each the sixth and seventh
innings, but couldn't mount a rally.
Junior Kandace Causey (L, 6-9) cruised
through the first three innings before allowing the TU run in the fourth and
the homer in the fifth. The Denham Springs, La., native finished the game with
five strikeouts while allowing three earned runs on six hits. Sophomore Heather
Fritz pitched the final two and two thirds innings for the Warhawks, allowing
only one baserunner while fanning three.
Senior Megan Miller finished with a pair of
singles to left centerfield to pace the Warhawk offense. Junior Michelle
Farrell-Fink, sophomore Melissa Rivera, and freshman Roxane Cassel added base knocks
to round out the ULM offense.
ULM returns to the diamond on March 24 when
it travels to Itta Bena, Miss., for a single game against Mississippi Valley
State at 5 p.m.
