ULM Softball Drops Series Finale to South Alabama, 3-1

MONROE, La. ? Brianna Love hit a solo home run in the fourth inning, but it wasn't enough as the ULM softball team dropped the rubber match of its series against South Alabama Sunday afternoon at the ULM Softball Complex, 3-1.

Beth Pilgrim (W, 11-8) was once again tough on the Warhawks (14-22, 6-5 Sun Belt) as she gave up just three hits and one run in the complete game victory. The Jaguars (19-18-1, 5-6 Sun Belt) pounded out seven hits and scored three runs as South Alabama took the Sun Belt Conference series, 2-1.

Love got the Warhawks on the board first with her home run to give ULM a 1-0 lead. The Jaguars quickly responded in the top of the fifth inning by plating a pair of runs to take a 2-1 lead. Danielle Honore drove in a run with her single to right field in the frame.

South Alabama added another run in the top of the sixth inning when Kelsey Donaldson scored on an illegal pitch to push the lead to 3-1 after the Warhawks thought they had recorded the final out of the inning on a pop-up to second base. Pilgrim continued to handcuff the Warhawk batters as she didn't give up another run and went the distance to earn the win.

ULM will be back in action on Friday when it travels to Western Kentucky for an Easter Weekend Sun Belt showdown.
