ANAHEIM, Calif.--Former ULM
standout, five-time Major League Baseball All-Star and the Los Angeles Angels
of Anaheim's all-time wins leader Chuck Finley will be inducted into the Angels
Hall of Fame Thursday night in a special ceremony prior to the team's game
against the Oakland A's.
Finley and Brian Downing will
become the first Angels since 1995 to be inducted to the organization's Hall of
Fame. They join Don Baylor, Rod Carew, Nolan Ryan, Jimmie Reese, Bobby Grich
and Jim Fregosi as the greatest to wear the Angel uniform.
Finley's MLB career spanned 18
seasons with the first 14 coming for the Angels organization. He tallied 165
wins for the Angels and ranks second behind only Ryan on the team's career
strikeout list with 2,151.
He holds the major league
record for striking out four batters in one inning accomplishing the unusual
feat three different times. Finley also holds the Angels records for innings pitched (2,675) and games started (379).
Finley played at ULM from
1984-85 leading the Warhawks in strikeouts in 1985. He along with Ben Sheets
had his ULM jersey retired in 2007.
