PINE BLUFF,
Ark. - Redshirt freshman midfielder Mindi Giroir scored her first goal of the
season as the ULM women's soccer team tied Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 1-1, on the
road on Tuesday.
Giroir's
first collegiate goal opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, senior
midfielder Britnie Markham assisted on
Giroir's goal. The assist for Markham gives her a two-game point streak,
Markham scored in ULM's last contest against McNeese State.
The Warhawks
took the one goal lead into the intermission despite being outshot by the Lady
Lions, 5-4, in the first half. Senior goalkeeper Mallory George played the
opening 45 minutes in goal for ULM and made one save.
Arkansas-Pine
Bluff tied the contest in the 49th minute as Taryn Wright scored a
goal off a feed from Jade West. Despite a wide open second 45 minutes that
featured 19 combined shots, neither team was able to tally a game-winner as ULM
went to overtime for the second time in three matches.
In the extra
20 minutes, Arkansas-Pine Bluff outshot ULM, 8-3, but the Warhawk defense, led
by freshman goalkeeper Alex Holland, who came on at halftime, kept the Lady
Lions from scoring in the overtime session. Holland made seven stops in her 65
minutes of action.
The Warhawks
forced Arkansas-Pine Bluff goalkeeper Chelsea Klein into 11 saves in the
contest.
ULM will
return to action on Friday as it travels to Denver to open up Sun Belt
Conference play. Game time between the Warhawks at Pioneers is scheduled for 7
p.m. CT.
