LAFAYETTE,
La. - The ULM soccer team closed out its season with a 6-0 loss to rival
UL-Lafayette on Friday afternoon at the Ragin' Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility.
UL-Lafayette
netted four first-half goals to build an early lead and cruise to the victory. It
marked only the third time in series history that a team has won by more than
one goal. Five of the previous eight matches had been decided in overtime,
including the Warhawks' 3-2 double-overtime victory last season.
ULM
finished the season with a record of 2-17-1, 0-11 in the Sun Belt. The Warhawks
recorded 14 shots against UL-Lafayette, including six shots on goal. Senior
midfielder Amy Porch led the Warhawks with five shots and two shots on goal.
UL-Lafayette
(10-10, 5-6 Sun Belt) got on the board in the 22nd minute on a goal from Kelli
Jestes to take a 1-0 advantage.
The
Ragin' Cajuns tallied three more goals in a span of three minutes midway
through the first half to grab a 4-0 lead. After Gayla Foster scored in the 30th
minute, Cayla Chatman scored twice-once in the 31st minute and again in the 32nd
minute.
Courtney
Hofland and Carleigh Martin added goals in the 89th minute for the
final margin.
This
was the final match for four ULM seniors-Samantha Cashman, Tiffany Bombard, Porch
and Ashleigh Fitterer.
Cashman,
a native of Las Vegas, led the Warhawks with four goals and eight points this
season. She totaled five goals in her four-year career at ULM. Her final goal
came against UALR on Oct. 8.
Bombard,
a native of Las Vegas, leaves ULM as the second leading scorer in the program's
history. She recorded 17 goals in her four-year career, including three this
season. Bombards' best season came as a sophomore when she recorded seven goals
and 14 points.
Porch,
a native of Canton, Ga., led the Warhawks with three assists this season. In
her four-year career, Porch totaled 2 goals and eight assists for 12 points.
Fitterer,
a native of Aurora, Colo., finished her four-year career with three goals and
an assist. Fitterer played in 56 matches over her career, making four starts. Her
best season came in 2009 when she netted a pair of goals and added an assist.
