JONESBORO, Ark. – The ULM volleyball team dropped a road
match to Arkansas State Friday night in the ASU Convocation Center as the Red
Wolves swept the Warhawks 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-18).
An all-around effort by senior libero Christy Tribble gained
her a team-high five kills for the Warhawks while coming in second in digs with
nine. Her total digs for the season comes to 354 after tonight's match and her
career total to 1,254 to sit just 40 digs behind all-time leader Cathy Trsar.
Junior middle blocker Mahogany Dilonga tied Tribble with five kills as well and
also stuffed four total blocks including three solo blocks. Junior defensive
specialist Lacey Dietlin collected a team-high 10 digs and junior setter Meghan
McCoy contributed 10 assists while freshman outside hitter Blanca Ocana was one
back with nine.
Allison Kearney claimed the lone double-double of the
evening for the Red Wolves after collecting a match-high 40 assists coupled
with 10 digs. Three Red Wolves also reached double-digits in kills as Cayla Fielder
led the way with 13 while Jasmine Terry and Ashley Tipps contributed 11 and 10,
respectively. Megan Baska had a match-high 13 digs while Sadie Clark collected
11.
ULM (0-24, 0-14 SBC) took an early 4-0 lead in the beginning
of the first set before a kill by Arkansas State's (16-11, 10-5 SBC) Tipps put
the Red Wolves on the board. Kills by Marissa Davis, Iren Marinova, Tetiana
Sukach and Tribble fueled a 10-7 run to increase ULM's lead 14-8 before Arkansas
State began to chip away at the Warhawks' advantage with an 11-5 spree to even
the score 19-19. Two more kills put the Red Wolves ahead for the first time
21-19 before a Stephanie Wardach kill and a Dietlin service ace quickly tied
the score again 21-21. Four unanswered kills ended the first set in favor of
Arkansas State 25-21.
The Red Wolves took a 6-3 second set lead before the
Warhawks found their rhythm on a 10-7 run that forced eight Arkansas State
errors to knot the score 13-13. ULM forced one more tie at the 14-14 mark
before Arkansas State regained control of the lead with a narrow 4-2 run to
make the score 18-16. A string of six final points gave the Red Wolves the
second set win 25-16.
A McCoy service ace started the third set before an 11-3
streak by Arkansas State including six unanswered points gave the Red Wolves an
11-4 advantage. ULM quickly responded with a kill by Tribble that sparked a 7-1
run which included five straight points to inch ULM within one 12-11. Arkansas
State answered with a six point streak of its own to give them an 18-11 lead before
an even 7-7 run ended the third set with a Red Wolves win 25-18.
ULM will play its final match of the season tomorrow night at
7 p.m. when the Warhawks visit UALR in Little Rock, Ark.
