LAKE
CHARLES, La. - ULM struggled offensively in a 60-41 loss at McNeese State
Tuesday evening inside Burton Coliseum.
The
Warhawks (6-5) were unable to get anything going on the offensive end, shooting 27.8
percent from the field. It marks the third time in the last five games that ULM
has shot under 30 percent.
Senior
guard Priscilla Mbiandja led ULM with 13 points, five rebounds, two assists and
two steals, while senior forward Sannisha Williams chipped in 12 points and
eight rebounds. The two combined for more than half of the scoring for the
Warhawks.
McNeese (6-3)
dominated ULM on the offensive end with eight 3-pointers and a 20-8 edge in the
paint. The Cowgirls also forced 20 ULM turnovers, scoring 23 points off those
turnovers.
McNeese
opened the second half on an 11-2 spurt to take a 40-24 lead. The Cowgirls hit
4 of their first 8 shots in the half, including a pair of 3-pointers to extend
the lead to double figures.
The Cowgirls
extended their lead to 20 points at 48-28 on a 3-pointer from Candace LaCombe
at the 12:30 mark.
Ashlyn
Baggett scored a game-high 14 points and Caitlyn Baggett added 13 points to
pace McNeese State.
Ashlyn
Baggett helped ignite a 14-4 run for McNeese late in the first half. Baggett
had seven points during that stretch, including a 3-pointer to push the
Cowgirls out to a 27-18 lead.
The
Warhawks shot 28.6 percent in the half and trailed 29-22 at the break.
ULM
used a strong rebounding effort to build an early 8-2 lead. Mbiandja hit a
3-pointer from the top of the key to cap the run with 15:20 remaining in the
half. The Warhawks had a 9-3 rebounding edge through the first five minutes of
the game.
ULM
returns home to face Tulane Dec. 20 at 7 p.m., inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
