MONROE, La. -- The ULM men's
basketball team opens Sun Belt Conference play on Sunday when Florida Atlantic
comes to Fant-Ewing Coliseum. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the game will
be televised live by the Sun Belt Network (CSS/CST) and online on ESPN3.
Fans are asked to bring a new
blanket to the game with them on Sunday to donate to Grace Place Ministries. Fans
who donate a blanket will receive half price adult admission.
The Warhawks (3-8) have won
two of their three home contests this season with the lone loss coming by one
point on a shot at the buzzer. Junior guard Hugh Mingo is the hottest Warhawk
coming into Sunday's matchup. He is the reigning Sun Belt Player of the Week
and has averaged 15.9 points a game over the last eight contests.
Junior guard Fred Brown leads
ULM and ranks seventh in the Sun Belt averaging 14.3 points per game, while
Mingo is second on the team and 14th in the league average 12.9
points a night and Lawrence Gilbert is third on the team and 27th in
the league dropping in 10.5 points a game. Tommie Sykes ranks fifth in the NCAA
with 44 offensive rebounds this season.
ULM enters the game against
Florida Atlantic second in the Sun Belt in scoring defense and second in the
league in rebounding margin; the Warhawks are allowing opponents to score just
66.1 points per game this season and just 56.7 points a game in Fant-Ewing
Coliseum.
Florida Atlantic (7-5, 1-0) got
a jump start on the rest of the league after claiming an 82-77 overtime-victory
at Troy on Thursday night. Raymond Taylor scored 24 points to lead four FAU
players in double digits against the Trojans. Greg Gantt is the lone Owl in
double figures for the season with a 14.6 per-game average.
