JONESBORO, Ark. – Junior forward Tommy Sykes led three Warhawks in double-figures with a team-high 13 points, but the ULM men's basketball team saw its two-game win streak fall on Monday night (Feb. 15) at Arkansas State, 69-52. Sykes also led ULM in rebounding with five boards. Senior guard Dynile Forbes and senior guard Kenneth Averette each scored 11 points for ULM.

Arkansas State (15-10, 10-4 Sun Belt) shot 52.0 percent (26-of-50) from the field in the contest, and 50.0 percent (7-of-14) from three-point range while the Warhawks shot just 33.9 percent (19-of-56) in the game.

Arkansas State took an early five-point lead but Forbes trimmed the advantage to just a pair, 10-8, with 14:23 to play in the first half. The trifecta was the second of the early going for Forbes. He then gave the Warhawks (11-15, 6-9 Sun Belt) their first lead of the contest, 14-13, with an old-fashioned three-point play two minutes later.

The Red Wolves answered with a 9-0 run to take a 22-14 lead with just over nine minutes remaining in the half.

Back-to-back triples of their last two possessions of the first half pushed the Arkansas State lead to 12, its largest of the half, before a free throw from Averette cut the Red Wolves lead to 34-23 at the intermission.

Forbes led all scorers with nine points in the opening 20 minutes. Arkansas State was led by Daniel Bryant; he had eight points off the bench in the first half. Nine Red Wolves played in the first half and all nine scored.

Arkansas State shot 52.0 percent (13-of25) in the first half, including 5-of-10 from beyond the three-point line. ULM shot 30.8 percent (8-of-26) in the opening stanza.

After Arkansas State increased its lead to 15, five-straight from ULM on a layup by Sykes and a triple from Averette cut the Red Wolves lead back to 10, 44-34. But Arkansas State quickly answered with the next four points to push its advantage to 48-34 with 12 minutes to play in the second half.

Sykes made his fourth field goal of the second half with 7:24 to play before Arkansas State scored five-straight to take a 61-42 lead with 5:36 to play. The Red Wolves held ULM scoreless for two-and-a-half minutes as they took their largest lead to that point in the contest.

The Arkansas State would grow to as much as 21 in the final moments before being cut to the final margin of 17.

Martavius Adams scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed a game-best seven rebounds.

ULM will continue its busy three-game week on Thursday (Feb. 18) when the Warhawks host New Orleans at Fant-Ewing Coliseum. Game time against the Privateers is scheduled for 7 p.m.
