MONROE, La.-The ULM football
team worked out for two hours on the Malone Stadium turf Friday afternoon in
the third and final session of the opening week of spring practice.
"We got a lot of things done
this week, a lot of things that we wanted to get done," head coach Todd Berry
said. "For the most part, this week has been real heavy on installation. I think
from an offensive standpoint it has been a little more difficult. Defensively,
while we have tweaked the system, it has not been one of those overhaul
changes. Offensively it is pretty much an overhaul change. While there are some
similarities to what we did when I was here before, most of it is a pretty
dramatic change for them."
After working out in helmets
and shorts on Monday and Wednesday, the Warhawks spent Friday's session in
helmets and shoulder pads.
"I was anxious to see who
would come and compete," Berry said. "I think as a whole football team we are
competing right now and we are practicing the way we want to practice. There
was a lot of heavy hitting going on today and we stayed off the ground, which tells me that we have good athletes."
Several players have stood out
to the coaching staff through the first sessions of spring camp.
"I thought that Darius Prelow
had a really good day today," Berry said. "Obviously we will go back and watch
the tape, but he showed up and made some really big plays today. The guy who has really been standing out and carried that forward today on offense is
Tavarese Maye. He catches everything that is thrown to him and made some plays
in traffic today. He is an exceptional athlete and I am looking for him to
continue to grow. He has picked up the offense relatively quick and that is a
great sign that he is mentally into practice."
The Warhawks continue their
normal practice schedule next week going at 4 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday and
2:30 p.m. on Friday.
