MIAMI - FIU used a
four-run
third inning and a seven-run fourth inning to defeat ULM 13-3 Saturday
evening
at University Park to clinch the Sun Belt Conference series.
ULM starter James
Jones struck
out six of the first 10 batters he faced in the game before he started
to
struggle with his control in the third inning. Following a leadoff
single,
Jones hit a batter and walked three straight, including two with the
bases
loaded. Mike Martinez provided the only run-producing hit in the inning
with an
infield single.
Martinez finished
2-for-4 with
three RBIs to lead FIU (25-17, 12-8 Sun Belt) at the plate. Junior
Arrojo was
3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored as FIU finished the game with 13
hits. ULM's
Friday night starter Drew Granier limited the Golden Panthers to just
six hits
in the series opener.
The first five
batters in the
home half of the fourth inning had base hits as FIU went on to score
seven runs
on eight hits in the frame. Four different Golden Panthers had RBIs in
the
inning with Martinez delivering the big blow with a two-run double.

earned -
on three hits and walked three.
