The contest with a pitching and defensive showcase until Louisiana-Lafayette busted the game wide open in the top of the fifth inning with six runs. The Ragin' Cajuns batted around the order and recorded four hits, to go along with two walks, a sacrifice fly and a Warhawk throwing error.

Louisiana-Lafayette scored all six of its runs between a span of five batters. It also scored three of its six runs after two outs. Within the inning, Bridges blasted a two-run home run over the patio in left field.

ULM answered in the bottom half of the fifth inning with a run to cut its deficit to 6-1. Rivera led off the frame with a walk and was pushed to second on Sartoris' sacrifice bunt. Girardi then laced a single up the middle to plate a run.
