MONROE, La. -
Rising ULM
senior pitchers Wil Browning and Drew Granier have been named to the
all-star
teams in their respective summer leagues. Browning, who plays for the
Danville
Dans, will represent the West Team in the Prospect League All-Star Game
and
Granier, who plays for the Harrisonburg Turks, will represent the South
Team in
the Valley Baseball League All-Star Game.
Browning ranks
second in the
Prospect League with five saves over 14 appearances for the Dans. The
Kosciusko,
Miss., native has struck out 18 batters, allowed just two extra-base
hits and
has a 2.00 ERA in 18.0 innings of work.
In his first season
with
Warhawks, Browning posted a 3-2 record with five saves as he served as
ULM's
closer. His five saves were tied for the 10th most in a
single-season
in school history. Browning struck out 42 batters in 44.1 innings of
work and
was named Sun Belt Conference and Louisiana Pitcher of the Week after a
dominating performance in ULM's season-opening victory at Ole Miss - it
was the
Rebels first opening day loss since 1981.
Granier will make a
return
appearance to the Valley Baseball League All-Star Game thanks in part to
his
3-0 record and 3.06 ERA. The Thibodaux, La., native has struck out 36
batters
in 35.1 innings of work and is holding opposing batters to a miniscule
.220
batting average. Granier has tossed a pair of complete games and has
thrown one
shutout in his five starts.
He settled into the
role as ULM's
top weekend starter during his initial campaign with the Warhawks.
Granier
posted a 5.56 ERA and allowed opponents to hit just .263 off of him this
past
season. His 79 strikeouts in 89 innings of work were the most by a
Warhawk
pitcher since Matt Green fanned 141 batters in 2005.
Granier
ended the season by posting a 2.53 ERA with 22 strikeouts and a .200
batting
average against in his final four starts. He averaged 8.0 innings per
start
during that stretch and tossed a pair of complete games. Granier was
named Sun
Belt and Louisiana Pitcher of the Week following a complete game shutout
of
Troy.
