Warhawks' Rally Falls Short in 3-2 OT Loss to McNeese State

LAKE CHARLES, La. - The ULM soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision in overtime to McNeese State on Sunday afternoon at Cowgirl Field. The Warhawks rallied for a goal in the final minute of regulation to extend the match into overtime.

Alana Clark of McNeese State added the game-winning goal for the Cowgirls in the 98th minute for the final margin.

ULM (2-5) has now played four overtime matches on the season, dropping to a record of 1-3 in those matches. It is also the sixth time in seven matches that the score has been decided by one goal.

The Warhawks outshot McNeese State (2-5) 20-13 in the match, including a 9-6 advantage in shots on goal.

"I felt like we came out and controlled the overtime period," ULM coach Stacy Lamb said. "We had chances to score, but we didn't take advantage of those opportunities."

The match was delayed for nearly an hour due to lightning in the area just before the overtime period began.  ULM tied the match at 2-2 at the 89:44 mark on the second goal of the season by freshman midfielder Alyssa Lopez.

Sophomore defender Christian Moreno put the Warhawks on the board in the 16th minute of the match to knot the score at 1-1. The score was the first of Moreno's career.

Johna Germany gave McNeese State a 2-1 advantage with a goal at the 56:56 mark in the second half. Audrey LaLanne opened the scoring with a goal of a penalty kick in the 11th minute.

10 Warhawk players had at least one shot in the match. Senior midfielder Amy Porch led the ULM attack with six shots, including two on goal.

Up next, the Warhawks host Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the ULM Soccer Complex.
