MONROE,
La. - Troy topped ULM 1-0 in the Sun Belt Conference opener for both teams on
Friday afternoon at the ULM Soccer Complex. The match stayed scoreless for the
first 81 minutes before Ruth Sutcliffe scored to give Troy the advantage.
ULM dropped its sixth one-goal match to move to 2-7-1 on the season, while Troy
improved to 6-2-1 with the victory. The Warhawks registered seven shots in the
game, including five that were on goal.
Sutcliffe
notched the winning goal at the 81:07 mark with a shot just past ULM goalkeeper
Alex Holland through the right side.
Holland
was solid in the net with nine saves in the match for ULM. Holland, a native of Las
Vegas, has held the opponent to one goal in each of the past two matches.
Senior
forward Tiffany Bombard led the Warhawks' offense with three shots, including
two shots on goal. Senior Midfielder Samantha Cashman and senior midfielder Amy
Porch each contributed a shot on goal.
ULM
will close out a two-match homestand against South Alabama on Sunday at 1 p.m.
at the ULM Soccer Complex.
