MONROE,
La. - Senior forward Tiffany Bombard scored in the 103rd minute to give ULM a
3-2 double-overtime victory over Centenary on Friday afternoon at the ULM
Soccer Complex.
The overtime
goal capped a second-half rally for the Warhawks (2-2), who trailed 2-1 with
eight minutes left to play in regulation. ULM outshot Centenary 26-2 in the
match, including a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal. The victory evened the
Warhawks record in overtime to 1-1 on the season.
The
Warhawks attacked the net early in the second overtime with three shots in just
over two minutes. Bombard dribbled through a crowd of defenders to get free for
the game-winning shot at the 102:59 mark.
Bombard,
a native of Las Vegas, Nev., netted her first goal of the season and 15th of
her career. Bombard is just seven goals shy of tying the school record of 22
set by Cindy Barker from 2000-03.
The
Warhawks tied the match at 2-2 at the 82:04 mark when freshman forward Kelly
Riley knocked in a goal past the Centenary goalkeeper. The shot was one of 16
taken by ULM in the second half.
Candace
Rushing scored the initial goal of the game in the 53rd minute to give the
Ladies a 1-0 advantage. Rushing received a cross from Holden Penney and scored
from straight-on.
Less
than a minute later, senior midfielder Samantha Cashman answered with her
second goal of the season. Cashman, a native of Las Vegas, Nev., scored off her
own miss at the 53:22 mark to knot the score at one each. Khadajha Simpkins got
credit for her first assist of the season on the play.
Centenary
grabbed a 2-1 lead seconds later when Holden got free for a goal at the 53:26
mark.
ULM controlled
possession for much of the first half as the game was tied at 0-0 at the break.
The Warhawks held a 4-0 shot advantage in the first 45 minutes.
ULM
will wrap up a two-game homestand against Nicholls State on Sunday afternoon at
1 p.m.
