MONROE,
La. - Nicholls State topped ULM 3-2 in overtime on Sunday afternoon at the ULM
Soccer Complex. Kaity
Mattsson scored the game-winner for the Colonels in the 96th minute on an
assist from Carolyn Noble.
It marked the second consecutive overtime match for
ULM and third in five matches this season. The Warhawks are now 1-2 when the
match is decided in extra periods.
ULM
(2-3) got a goal from freshman midfielder Alyssa Lopez in the 81st
minute to tie the match and send it into overtime. Freshman defender Brittany
Parker set up the goal with a nice dish to Lopez, who finished the ball in the left
corner to knot the game at 2-2.
Senior
forward Tiffany Bombard gave ULM its first score of the afternoon at the 15:43
mark with a shot from just inside 18 feet that gave the Warhawks an early 1-0
lead. Sophomore midfielder Kylie McIntyre got credit for the assist.
Nicholls
State scored the final two goals of the first half with the first coming in the
26th minute off the foot of Carolyn Noble. Alexandra Marino gave the Colonels a
2-1 advantage with a goal in the 40th minute off an assist from
Mattsson.
ULM
took 12 shots in the match and outshot Nicholls 7-4 in the second half. Each
team had two shots in the overtime period. Senior midfielder Samantha Cashman
led the ULM attack in the second half with four shots.
Up
next, the Warhawks will travel to Northwestern State on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m.,
followed by a trip to McNeese State on Sept. 12 at 1 p.m.
